Interdependence

I am so grateful for my job. God has provided for me an opportunity to earn a living using my organizational abilities in the service of others. And while I am on the tail end of my career path as a project manager I still have loads to offer and so must find ways to remain positive and fully engaged.
For me, one of the challenges to staying engrossed at work is not feeling like I’m valued. It seems that many people I work with are caught up in their own dramas and to them I am a mere supporting character in their productions. This would not be such a challenge for me if it didn’t feel like my role was insignificant to them, to their success, and to their growth. Sometimes I think people fail to see the undeniable interconnection of all things in this our life. This often has a minimizing and demeaning effect on people and in turn diminishes their ability to fully shine.
After my retreat two weekends ago I committed to living by some “new rules”. One of these new rules is to become aware of other people’s gifts and to affirm those gifts in them. In this way I believe I will begin to bring some understanding of the profound impact that everyone crossing our paths has on our lives. My hope is that this will make people stop and think about our interactions and reflect on the goodness they inherently are beneath the negative mind chatter, limiting thoughts, and fear. And I hope my presence in their lives will help them find ways to share their goodness with others.
