Horror Movie Decision Making

“If you are in a horror movie you make poor decisions.” This tagline for insurance is not only humorous, but enlightening to. You could easily replace “horror movie” with “nightmare situation” and the same would hold true. Poor decisions would ensue.
I believe this to be a true statement but its truth comes from what you are saying about your current circumstance. If you are in an unhappy life situation and you tell yourself you are in a nightmare, your decisions will be colored by nightmarish thoughts because this is your view of reality. You’re only thought or solution is to escape and because you’re thinking your situation equals a nightmare, there is no time to stop and think in order to make better decisions. In order to change your situation for the better.
If you are going through a rough patch, but you don’t classify it as horrific, then you are freer to find the good in the situation and you are more able to think strategically (or at least more clearly) because you are less likely to be in panic mode.
Anthony DeMello said, “It’s not reality that matters, but what you are saying to yourself about it”.
