Leaps and Bounds

3184182387_6c6695d409_bRabbits, I’ve been told, mean fear. When I come across them on my morning walks everything in their actions reinforces this. They immediately freeze and as I move in their direction they scamper away from me. I, in seeing their fright, get slightly sad and maybe a little annoyed that they think I mean them harm. I know this is normal; they don’t know me from Adam. So this harmless snub passes me quickly and I begin to wonder what message their crossing my path signals for me.

I haven’t felt much fear lately. I’m more sure of myself and less afraid than I have ever been in my life, but because I believed rabbits symbolize fear they haunted me and made me question what it was that I was failing to notice about myself and my comportment, that might cause me to stumble. These rabbits were having the effect of bringing on a degree of self-doubt that I’d recently shaken off.

Then a few days ago I read of another possible theme that rabbits can represent, another meaning that fits better with where I am in my life, creation and quick movement – two conditions that I’m experiencing and welcoming into my life. I’ve begun to believe lately that my aspirations don’t have to take a long plodding time to unfold. Things can materialize rather quickly and propel me, as if by leaps and bounds, into my desired future.

Yesterday afternoon I met with a good friend to “discuss” going to France on vacation this year. By yesterday evening we had booked our flight and reserved our hotel room, just like that. In one big leap, my emerging dream is quickly taking shape!

Sometimes listening to one source of information can be misleading. The lesson here for me is to listen and take in information, but also seek alternative explanations. One viewpoint, even from a trusted source, might not be the only possibility and can lead me astray.
